Theology Discussion Group

First and third Thursdays, 12:00-1:30 PM

Join onsite at Holidays Pub & Grill, 3950 N Richmond St, Appleton, or online via Zoom.

Do you have faith questions? Would you like a place to discuss your spiritual questions with other adults in a supportive environment? This group meets twice a month to discuss questions, ponder readings, and explore our faith over lunch.

Theology Group Book Discussion: On May 7, 2026, First Congregational’s Theology Reading Group will begin discussing its next book, Unfettered: Imagining a Childlike Faith Beyond the Baggage of Western Culture, by Mandy Smith, with a foreword by Walter Brueggemann. Author Smith, a popular pastor and speaker, explores how we can be transformed by new postures and habits that help us see God already at work in and around us. She invites us to detox from the deeply ingrained habits of daily life in modern Western culture (“the seductions of modernity that vie for control, certitude, and predictability”) by opening ourselves to Jesus’ invitation to become “as little children.” Unfettered helps us reimagine how to follow God with our whole selves again and to join with God’s mission in the world.
